Ring Around The Rosie

By: Fox

Doves fly through shadows, breaking the night with a glorious golden orb;

sprouting from beneath the earth. A promise of love that encircled a human finger. The

ocean’s waves drifted lonely overhead. Forming, knights and castles, princesses and

insignificant things. Images taken from dreams. A whirling mass of humans close

together, fabric swaying to a beat. Laughing, clapping, smiling, holding hands. Holding

themselves tightly together.

This all begins to fade. Darkness spreads like ink and stains the sky. Shimmers

of light still remains, a reminder to them that one will always return.

“Why do you conceal the truth?” The ring bearer screamed.

“They will never understand.” A voice like oil, spreads thickly into the air, floats

above it.

“What of the ones that can?” A rage controlled her voice.

“There are none, mere humans. Flesh that would crawl at the thought, blood that

would boil if the idea would ever be considered. Minds that would break if it was ever

accepted. All their ‘right ways’ so petty are these; humans. Believe they are superior to

all species, do you realize how non-complex the are compared to others?” A calm air, no

voice, but still his is heard.

“We create wonderful things with our minds. What do animals do?”

“They keep it alive, you alive, the earth alive. Living, breathing, working!

Correcting your mistakes! The dreamers, the artists, the writers, they create. Humans

have been destroying the earth, once they surpassed their instincts. A mistake you were

to create. Yet, you will destroy yourselves soon enough. A pity the rest will be taken

down with you. Such a waste for the stars to create.”

“You deny me the truth! Lies! All lies!” Her voice quavered as if erupting,

shaking as an earthquake. Stressed syllables coming from the back of the throat.

Laughter.

“Growling, you believe you are not an animal but ‘higher’, such as I? You growl

as a beast does, you mate insignificantly and plague the earth of more of you.”

“We are intelligent.” Shaking now of fright.

“You are selfish.”

“Why did they create us?”

“A mistake.”

“We create.”

“You plague.”

“We love!” Urgency in her voice pleaded with him.

“You murder. Everyday you murder, anything and everything the stars have made

your race has destroyed. Even your dreamers who realize the beauty at one point

destroyed it with their bare hands for no real reason. Insignificant, the whole race and

everything they stand for!” A bitter loathing spit from the edge of a tongue.

“No!” Head in her hands, she clawed at her mind.

“You think they can handle the truth, you can handle the truth1? Know and

breathe the truth after hearing it? Never, look at you losing your mind already. The mind

is strong but you can not even begin to understand it, a waste on a human. You never

meant to exist, destroying you would have been pointless because your destiny arrived the

moment the mistake happened.”

“Please, stop.”

“Mercy, mercy, no! You give no mercy to beauty, I show no mercy to you. You

asked, I will tell. Look, your ring. It’s a symbol of love and trust in your culture. No, in

the universe it is destruction. Ring around the rosie, dear. A pocket full of posies,

greed! Ashes, ashes we all fall down. To die is the human race’s destiny!”

On the dance floor, water crawling down her face in a salty stream, down her

insignificant flesh. The truth burning inside her. “Truth, truth, truth.” She whispered.

She saw the knife, by the cake, but the insignificant cake in the insignificant world! She

lunged for it but was held back by other insignificant humans.

She sits alone in the corner, rocking back and forth, clutching her ring, all the

while, singing.

“Ring around the rosie-

A pocket full of posies-

Ashes--Ashes--

We all fall down.”
