Sonnet to a Role model

By: Yverek

When I grow up I hope to be like that.

I look to you, role model that you are.

I want to be the one to fill your hat.

I hope and pray your name I do not mar.

As time goes by I age, I shape, I mold.

By your example I still lead my life

I do my best to not just end up old

But rather live to overcome all strife.

Your struggles do not have to define me.

I have enough in my own troubled heart.

How can you expect me to be so corny?

I wish this pain and pressure would depart.

They say you only reap what you have sown.

I’d hate to think my life is not my own.
