Together Wolves

By: Joshua Gardynik (falcon)

Wolves at heart,

Wolves in mind.

The day we met,

Our spirits entwined.

Our short time together,

My love for you ingrained.

But then you ran off,

And only reminiscence remained.

Two thousand days,

I shared no bone,

Two thousand nights,

I howled alone.

But then you returned!

Surely I dreamed,

Same as I remembered,

But more wonderful it seemed.

I listened, I talked,

Grew close just like before.

Made you feel happy,

Showed you there was more.

My gifts would not win you,

I knew this from the start.

Things soon returned to the way they'd been,

And again we drifted apart.

My tail may get matted and mangy,

My fur may fall out or turn gray.

As long as I can still stand on four paws,

My vigilance remains; it will never stray.

'til my memories cease to come,

'til I draw breath no more,

My love for you burns ever brightly,

down to my wolfish core.
