A Second's Eternity

All that could be heard was the hollow thumping

that anticipation becomes,

and a voice, as if a subtle message from above,

seeming to float in and out of awareness:

Are you ready?

Ready for that one moment--

determined as the Marquis:

turning that pinprick pain to pleasure.

Such hurt—so crunchy and sweet;

quickly did it manifest,

as thick blood filled the air lightly

with the scent of rusty sweetness--

familiar, but the euphoria made it new.

A moment sharp and through can seem to last

as long as things erotic persevere.

Eternity will hold and hold so fast,

then drop--for everlasting bliss was near.

The feeling taken quickly stains the mind--

as poisoned as the thoughts of Leontes,

which makes the mortal seem obsessed to find

emotion's many immortalities.

The feel of letters written on a page

will last much longer than the minds of men,

for memory is wont to slip with age,

so Muse of this did pass from mind to pen:

The words of pain become pain instead--

and pleasure pains the pain of being dead.
