freedom

By: jade

children stretch out trying to reach

red kites floating above a grassy knoll

frantic hares, trying to evade the grasp

of the wolves who have encircled

while the tortoise lifts a heavy head

staggering down the flight of stairs

desperately trying to catch the last train.

the mushrooms march, two by two

uprooted by the violent wanderings of an angel

who has been playing in mud puddles

soiling her delicate sheath

i walk the tracks, stones no longer holding back weeds

iced over as the black procession paces

through this dream of fragile hands.
