What Love is Lost

Lydia Porter

We always thought that we would be so near

Of never being separated o’er

The rest of lifetime that has left me here

I saw how we had been so wrong before

To think that life could lead us so apart

But then to meet when we were both alone

We melded right betwixt our lonely hearts

To find that fate had thoughts of all its own

For now, the past has left us both behind

And birds have flown beyond on silken wings

My memories have laid on them so kind

I’ll wait and see just what tomorrow brings

We never really thought what this would do

But still I feel that somehow we both kneww
