Fool's Gold

By: Wome

A thousand golden cities

clenched in Midas' palm,

Enchanted by the glimmer

and its disturbing calm.

The shimmering refractions,

Flickering torches in the night,

A tainted promise of dreams

of avarice blurring sight.

Decieved by the lights

which gleam in my hand,

Betrayed by delusions

of this gilded sand.

Possessed by the greed,

Festering behind my eyes,

My soul writhes in agony,

Knowing the truth behind the lies.
