severed

By: jade

fearing me afire

you've tossed me overboard

shock of cold salty water paralyses

I watch you disappear

crying, waving goodbye as I sink

your tears, lemmings consumed by the pacific

do you think the sea will rise?

far better to melt the polar ice caps with a lighter

submerged, awaiting my whale

seaweed reaches up, wrapping itself around me

welcoming me to the sea, dragging me down

comforting me, its kiss sweet on bitter lips

suddenly I can breathe

garish gills, a second skin

wards off pressure

I learn to feed off the bottom

tiny morsels at first

hunger grows, instincts swell

I kill

carcasses litter the ocean floor

dorsals raped and tossed away
